Standardized mean differences (placebo versus baseline) for physical and biochemical parameters in the 29 trials of the first dataset, retrieved from a MEDLINE search. Black squares indicate single effect sizes, white squares are the subgroups' mean effect sizes, and whiskers the 95% CI. Reference numbers are given in square brackets. Positive values favor placebo treatment.
