NAFLD and psychiatric disorders. Bidirectional pathophysiological relations between NAFLD and psychiatric disorders. NAFLD and psychiatric disorders share many common pathophysiological pathways that point to common underlying mechanisms. NAFLD is part of a complex system of mental and organic diseases with a common pathogenesis between genetic, environmental, and epigenetic factors based on dysregulation of inflammation, redox pathways, and mitochondrial biogenesis.
