Number of diseases in life course and longevity among individuals who died from any reasons. The barchart displays the medians (interquartile ranges) for longevity, age of diagnosis of primary disease, years from primary disease to mortality, and years from last disease to mortality, respectively. Number of diseases was computed based on the16 groups of diseases accounting for 0.5% or more of all disease. Diseases diagnosed in life course were identified using self-reported questionnaire, nurses’ interview, and inpatient records. Primary disease is the first one of diseases of interest diagnosed in life course, and the last disease is the last one diagnosed before mortality. Horizontal lines indicate interquartile ranges for medians
